With international air capacity 22.5% higher than the number of passengers actually carried in 2019, Mexico's tourism revenue estimate for 2022 is US$35.185 billion as advanced by the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur).

Tourism will leave in Mexico revenues of US$ 35,185 million in 2022 and proof of this is that there is already a substantial increase in seats and flights scheduled for next year, informed the Ministry of Tourism.

With information from the Official Airline Guide (OAG), the Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, said that "the airline seats scheduled for next year represent an increase of 22.5% over passengers carried in 2019," before the pandemic, the ministry said in a statement.

From January to December of this year, 190,513 flights are scheduled to Mexico, a 2.1% increase in operations over what was recorded in 2019, when 186,500 flights were operated.

Regarding seats, 31.56 million are scheduled which, compared to the 24.46 million passengers carried in 2019, means a potential increase of 22.5% in the number of passengers in the event of full occupancy.

"By 2022, it is estimated that there will be an inflow of US$35.185 billion," said the Tourism Minister.

The air schedule that is available for the months of December 2021 and January 2022 poses an offer of 34,381 flights to our country, which, compared to the 34,677 flights made in the two-month period of December 2019 and January 2020, represent only 0.9% less.

Mexico's tourism GDP, which until before the coronavirus health crisis represented 8.7% of the national gross domestic product (GDP) in 2019, will close this 2021 at a proportion of 7.1% and in 2022 at 8.3%, according to government estimates.
